Telephone support for people with dementia
Description
A leading dementia charity runs a telephone service that provides people who have dementia with companionship and conversation. Through this regular contact, they can stay connected and be better informed on how to access local services and activities.
As a volunteer with the service you would have the following tasks.
- Telephone people living with dementia on a regular basis, chatting with them about the things they are interested in and want to talk about. The number of people you telephone may vary.
- Assist and support people living with dementia, giving advice and signposting them to services to enable them to live well.
- Provide formal feedback to your role manager or lead volunteer.
This role will suit you if you:
- want to support people living with dementia and enable them to feel connected
- are confident using the telephone, enjoy talking to people and are happy working alone
- have good verbal communication and exceptional listening skills
- are patient, organised, and able to agree and arrange dates/times of when to make calls.
