Bereavement support volunteers are needed to make home visits to offer support and advice to the recently bereaved. Volunteers visit at a mutually agreed time. They can be involved in group work, the helpline, and work with young people and children.
Volunteers must complete the Bereavement Support Foundation Course over 3 full days, followed by further training. Currently training is taking place online. Applicants are interviewed and DBS checked.
Time commitment: approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours per week, plus 2 hours per month supervision in Saffron Walden.
No previous bereavement support experience is needed but it is important to have an openness to learn about others and one's self, and a non-judgemental attitude. An awareness of the need for confidentiality, and commitment to the course are essential.
