Do you have an appreciation of the natural world and our role in it? Then maybe you can help manage a National Nature Reserve near Ashdon, where volunteers with simple gardening skills are needed, specifically to help to restore an area of the reserve that has been neglected.
The hazel that is regularly coppiced or cut down on a sustainable cycle has become very sparse and needs help to spread into the gaps by ‘layering’ or training live stems of hazel onto the ground to take root, a very ancient and effective skill, more successful than planting.
Learn how to do this and why it is so important to preserving the diverse fauna and flora. There is no public access to this reserve unless you are a part of the management as it is privately owned.
We also have an existing volunteer group that meets every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from October to May.
