A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. Volunteers are needed locally to accompany a group of children walking to school from the drop-off point at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre, Saffron Walden The walk is about half a mile and involves crossing two roads.
Initially the 'bus' will run only in the mornings only, but if successful an after-school bus will be added.
Studies show that fewer children are walking and biking to school, and more children are at risk of becoming overweight. Meanwhile, many parents say they are reluctant to allow their children to walk because of concerns over safety. Walking buses are an exciting initiative to address this problem. Why not help to run one?
